He’s the artist behind these beautiful pastel narratives in an immaculate aesthetic. Griefy is a talented digital artist originally from Greece, with a brilliant talent for minimalistic photography and hyperrealism. Ever wondered how he came up with his artistic alter ego? Or what the story is behind his most meaningful piece? We’ve gone and asked him for you. Enjoy!
miPic: How did you find miPic?
Griefy: I found miPic while browsing on Instagram.
m: How did you come up with your artist name?
G: “Griefy” was the first username I chose when I joined the digital world – as a myspace kid. It was cool back then to have a creepy/spooky/romantic name. I decided to keep it and use it as my artist name as I find art in the digital era quite fascinating.
m: Who are your artistic references/influences?
G: The amount of influences that can affect the nature and creativity of an artist’s work especially in the Digital Era is countless, and to pinpoint a true inspiration is difficult, to say the least. I believe I have mostly been influenced by some tumblr-aesthetic artists such as Dom Sebastian and Phebe Schmidt.
m: Where do you feel most inspired to create your work?
G: I feel most inspired when I’m chilling in my room, especially when it’s sunny.
m: What is your favourite social platform?
G: Definitely Instagram!
m: Which of your pieces is most meaningful to you and what’s the story behind it?
G: I guess the cut in half avocado artwork entitled “You and Me”. It represents a broken relationship.
m: Who do you dream to collaborate with?
G: I would like to take photos of Rina Sawayama and Tommy Genesis
m: Is creating art / taking photos your full time job? If not, what do you do 9 till 5?
G: I’m not really a 9-5 person. I make most of my money online working as a social media manager for a company and promoting people’s platforms or taking pictures of their products.
I want to be able to decide when to begin my day and I want to work when I want to, the way I want to. One of the great things about the internet is that it’s such a great way to get into business for yourself. No matter where you live, as long as you have an internet connection, you can make money online.
m: Who else do you admire on miPic?
G: I really like Sahim’s surreal scenery!
m: What music are you listening to right now?
G: I really like SZA’s debut album and of course Cardi B!
m: What are your top 3 favorite films?
G: Death Becomes Her, Blow-Up & The Grand Budapest Hotel
